We won big at the Radio Awards - in a way

L to R: Peter Wolfkamp, Josh Couch, Phil Guyan, Petra Bagust and Mick Andrews

Last week, six of our team attended the New Zealand Radio & Podcast Awards, where we were finalists in two categories.

Grey Areas with Petra Bagust was up for Best Society & Culture Podcast and Are You Mental?, a mental health series by our producer Mick Andrews, was nominated for Best Independent Podcast.

And guess what…? We didn’t win either award.

Of course we would’ve loved to have left with a trophy, but to be honest, that wasn’t really the point.

The true value of attending these major industry events lies in the opportunity they create for Media Chaplaincy NZ to connect with hundreds of our media colleagues face-to-face – something that is of particular importance right now.

At the ceremony, two of our chaplains, Petra Bagust and Frank Ritchie, had personal conversations with dozens of media personnel.

Media Chaplaincy NZ also sponsored an award, Best Community Campaign, further increasing the visibility of this life-giving service.

It’s been a tumultuous period for people working in the radio industry, with budgets squeezed and job losses across the board. Those who work in media are deeply uncertain about their futures, and are seeking people who understand what they’re going through and can support them in it.

Your giving to date has enabled important bridges of trust to be built between media and people of genuine Christian faith. Anxious media personnel are feeling less alone because Media Chaplaincy NZ has provided a safe space where confidential support is available at no cost.

But this life-giving service cannot continue to exist without your generous support.

Please consider donating today to help create a healthy and vibrant media industry, by enabling media personnel to meet with a competent, media-savvy Christian who can support and listen to them.
